The TissueSurgeon is a multi-purpose system designed for non-contact precise sectioning for histology, micro-structuring and imaging of biological tissue and various non-metal materials with the help of photons instead of (steel-) blades. It is suitable for processing biological tissue as well as materials, such as ceramics, polymers and resins. The TissueSurgeon overcomes the limitations of common methods like microtomy, ground sections or laser-microdissection (LMD). Based on Femtosecond Laser Technology, it can be used for three-dimensional sectioning or gentle extraction of samples and materials for further analysis. For navigation and imaging of samples, the TissueSurgeon can be equipped with Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Multiphoton Microscopy (MPM). This provides great flexibility and enables novel approaches.

CellSurgeon is a laser dissection and multiphoton imaging system which enables precise, contact-free 3D-nanodissection and imaging of cells and subcellular structures. CellSurgeon can be used in living cells for studies of cell dynamics and biomechanics. Selective manipulation of cell organelles makes it possible to assess an impact on specific cellular processes. Furthermore, CellSurgeon is suitable for optoporation*, a novel highly effective method of cell transfection. Experiments of accurate cutting in living small organisms with subsequent time-lapse recordings in 3D can easily be performed by means of CellSurgeon.
